What is the difference between dry and parched skin?
Dry and parched skin are two different skin conditions that need to be evaluated and treated accordingly.
Dry – This is a skin type that is permanent. If you have a dry type - your skin is rough, flaky and doesn't become even after moisturizing and it is in this state at any time of the year. In such cases, the skin lacks natural oils and needs additional hydration to compensate for the lack of its own oils. This skin type can be genetic and in most cases is accompanied by high sensitivity (redness/cracks). Such skin does not suffer from acne, black dots, rashes, and is prone to premature expression of wrinkles. Products containing vitamin E and peptides are useful for this type of skin. As for the care routine, the steps are standard: Cleansing – it would be best if you use a cleansing milk/lotion, which in turn moisturizes the skin at the same time. Exfoliation – because the skin is dry, we should not give up on it, on the contrary, dry skin = dead cells that accumulate on the surface and clog pores, creating a barrier for moisturizers and other care products. Exfoliators with natural granules are extra pressure for dry skin, so opt for AHA chemical products, but be sure to read the instructions carefully before use (to avoid allergies, blemishes, etc.). Toner – for PH balance and to ensure absolute cleanliness (may have an additional function - for example anti-redness). Essence/Lotion – Unlike toners, they have a more saturated formula that prepares the skin for the next steps (this step is helpful, but not necessary). Serum – is a necessary step (22-25+ for dry skin) because it works on the dermis layer of the skin and deeply moisturizes it (may have an additional function - for example, anti-redness, anti-aging). Moisturizer – for fixing and moisturizing the surface of all products listed above. Such skin needs oil-based care products.
Dryness is a skin condition that is temporary and can affect any skin type. Is your skin tight after cleansing? Do you have dry patches? Rash? Is the skin peeling on a certain part of your face? At the same time, do you have an oily T-zone? In many cases, this condition is caused by improper nutrition (carbonated drinks, coffee, chocolate, "junk food"), humidity, climate and sun exposure, due to an insufficient amount of water. At such times, the body produces more fat to compensate for the lack of water. Increased fat causes rashes, irritation, infections. Due to the causes listed above, to correct this condition, it is necessary to change the diet - more water, fruits and vegetables (especially - cucumbers, tomatoes, broccoli, watermelon, strawberries), less semi-finished products and "junk food". In this case too, the steps of the care routine are identical, the composition of the products changes according to the specific manifestations and needs of the skin. Such skin needs water-based care products.
The brief description of the skin manifestations and their care products in the post makes it clear that these 2 skin conditions require different care. Dry skin care products will not only correct dry skin, but they can make it worse due to their oily/greasy content, and conversely, water-based products for dry skin cannot provide moisture to dry skin.
